Why Root Canal Treatment May Be Discussed
Root canal treatment may be considered when the inner part of a tooth is inflamed or infected. The aim is usually to treat the inside of the tooth and preserve it when appropriate.
Typical Discussion Before Treatment
- Symptoms such as pain, sensitivity, swelling or previous dental history.
- Whether the tooth can be restored after treatment.
- Whether alternatives such as extraction need to be discussed.
- How many visits and follow-up steps may be needed.
After the Procedure
The tooth may need a filling, crown or other restoration after root canal treatment. The dentist will explain after-care and follow-up based on the condition of the tooth.
Important Patient Note
Not every painful tooth needs root canal treatment, and not every tooth can be saved. A dental examination is needed before treatment planning.
